Chemistry

Introduction:

In the year of 1968 the Department of Chemistry started under the headship of Shri. G. L. Jatale. He has retired in December 2003 and Dr. G. R. Subbanwad was appointed as Head of the Department since Jan. 2004 to Jan. 2010. After his retirement Dr. H. A. Tirpude has appointed as H. O. D. onwards. Prof. M. G. Biradar was faculty  member in the Department and he retired in Jun. 2010.

In the beginning Chemistry was one of the major optional subjects taught at P.U.C. in the faculty of science. In the early days there was a single laboratory cum store room for the department, but in the due course of time to provide the requirements to meet the increasing strength of the students, independent senior and junior laboratories were established.

In the year 1996 the department introduced post graduate programme in Chemistry to fulfil the demands of the students. The department imparts instructions at UG and PG levels by way of teaching and research activities. In the year 2003 a “Research centre in Chemistry” duly recognized by the university was established. The Department also offers Ph. D programme. At present, the Department of  Chemistry is the largest department of the college with largest enrolment of the students good results and active participations of the faculty in teaching , research , publication and co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Presently, there are total eleven faculty members in the department which are actively involved in teaching and research in chemistry at UG, PG and Ph. D levels. The faculty members in the order of seniority are Dr. H. A. Tirpude (H.O.D.), Dr. D. B. Muley (Associate professor), Dr. A. S. Tekale (Associate professor), Mrs. S. S. Pawde (Assistant professor), Shri A. T. Narhare, Shri G. G. Deshpande, Miss. D. K. Borolkar, Shri P. S. Reddy, Dr. S. S. Patil, Miss. S. F. Ustad, Miss. S. G. Suryawanshi. Dr. D. B. Muley is guiding three part time, one full time research scholar for their research leading to Ph. D. degree.
