 Name of the Department: Sociology

Brief History:

          Sociology is the science that deals with the study of manifestations, systems and social relations, a careful analytical and descriptive study through the pursuit of different research methods, in order to reach the rules and laws governing the conduct of this phenomena and social relations.

This science also means understanding the nature of various social relations so this society can draw up strategic plans, set goals and programs that will work to incres progress and raise society.

The department of sociology was established in the Shivaji Mahavidyalaya during the academic year 1972 -73 with professor L.S. Banate as head of department. Subsequently, Mr. S.N. Gandewar joined the department in the year 1974-75. S.N. Gandewar took the charge of head of the department after the retirement of Mr. L.S. Banate in the year 2004- 2005. In 2012 -13 Dr. R.M. Manjre has taken the charge as a head of department subsequently, Dr.A. H. Patil joined the department in the year 2016-17.

The faculty members have presented their papers in regional and as well as National seminar, conferences organized by various universities and institutions. The department organised two National seminar and also organized four online webinar on different subjects.

Dr. R.M. Manjre has completed minor research project in the area of sociology of weaker sections. One minor research project sanctioned by the S.R.T.M. University to Dr.R.M. Manjre in the area of media and Society. Dr.A H.Patil has also completed her research project in the area of social problems in India.
