Botany

Introduction: Department of botany was established in June 1968 in the faculty of science. Post graduate facility was started in academic year 1991-92. We are having university recognized research center to conduct  research in basic  and applied (analytical) work in plant sciences. 13 students have been  awarded with Ph.D. till date under the guidance of our former faculties Dr.S.M.Mule and Dr.M.V.Umatale. 02 Students are working currently for their Ph. D.

Highlights of the Major Events Organized/ Activities Conducted: The department is actively engaged in promoting curricular and co-curricular activities for the students of B. Sc. And M. Sc.. We have trained students in exploration, Identification and evaluation of plants, re-conservation of natural resources and protection of endangered plant species and their conservation. Every year we organise many botanical excursions in the surrounding areas. The students also actively took part in the Avishkar research festival.

  • Upgradation of the existing laboratories so as to conduct research in molecular biology, biotechnology.
  • Plan to arrange workshop/conference on new trends in plant sciences.
  • Plant to apply for Major/minor research projects to UGC, DBT, DSc.
  • Plan to arrange guest lectures of eminent personalities for PG and research scholars.
  • Plan to execute new MoU with food industries, research centres.
